Our History
1933
Jaindl Farms is established by John L. Jaindl when he and his son Fred begin growing turkeys on their farm in Allentown, Pennsylvania with just five turkeys given as a gift to Fred purchased at a county fair.
1954
Jaindl turkeys win the "Grand Champion", Reserve Champion, and Best Display in the worldwide National Turkey Federation Competition. Jaindl continues to show and win each year through 1959. Since winning these awards, Jaindl has provided the holiday turkey at Thanksgiving to the President each year. In 1959 the "Grand Champion" trade mark is established.
1965
After years of partnering with his Father, Fred Jaindl purchases the farm from him, with John continuing to work as General Manager. At this time, the farm is raising and marketing 200,000 birds per year and farming 500 acres. New turkey barns in Orefield are built.
1967
Jaindl builds a computerized feed mill in Orefield, Pennsylvania. The mill, which is easily operated by one person, has an on-site storage capacity of approximately 950,000 bushels of grain. The feed produced in Jaindl’s Mill provides their turkeys with a fresh, high-quality feed specially formulated for the Jaindl turkey.
1969
Jaindl builds one of the country’s most state-of-the-art food processing plants. Jaindl makes commitment to animal welfare and food safety. Pictured is John Jaindl, Sr.
1973
Jaindl builds the turkey hatchery. Production and distribution have increased to nearly 1 million turkeys each year. Over 6,000 acres of prime land are farmed in Lehigh, Northampton, and Berks counties. Pictured is Bill Grim, a long time former employee.
1980
David Jaindl, Fred’s son, takes over as General Manager of the farm after his Grandfather's passing.
1990
Land holdings have increased to almost 10,000 acres.
1991
Jaindl lands the first big land deal with Nestle. It would become Nestle’s largest distribution center in the country and would lead the start of Jaindl’s 1,000-acre Lehigh Valley West I, II & III industrial parks.
2005
David Jaindl purchases the farm to continue the family tradition after his Father’s passing in 2004.
2007
Jaindl builds a bio-fuel plant which converts soybeans grown on their farm to a high-quality protein meal fed exclusively to Jaindl turkeys. Through this process Jaindl also presses oil from the roasted soybean. This oil is blended to provide environmentally sensitive bio-diesel consumed in their operation, heating their processing plant, hatchery and then blended to run their farm equipment.
2009
Jaindl receives letter from the Humane Society of the United States recommending Jaindl Farms to retailers. This recognized the thought and care Jaindl has for their birds.
2014
Jaindl Farms raises 750,000 turkeys annually and produces up to 1,400 tons of feed each week for the turkeys.
2015
Jaindl acquires historic 100-year-old beverage company, A-Treat Soda. With a history spanning nearly 100 years and three generations, A-Treat soda is a true Pennsylvania staple—and a brand that has gained legions of devoted fans from all age groups and walks of life. Like a Friday night football game, like a trip to the shore, like a summer get-together, A-Treat is a simple pleasure that never gets old.
2020
Jaindl completes its newest "state of the art" turkey barn. Fully equipped with automatic water, feeders and computer temperature control technology.
