Cooking Instructions
This 30-minute turkey chili requires minimal shopping, relies on pantry staples, and only dirties a single pot.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 1 packet (1 oz) taco or chili seasoning mix
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney or black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
Directions:
- Brown the meat and onions: Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey and chopped onion. Cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking the meat apart with a spoon until no pink remains and the onions are soft. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Add seasonings and liquids: Stir in the seasoning packet, diced tomatoes with their juices, rinsed beans, and broth. Stir well to combine and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
- Simmer and serve: Bring the pot to a gentle boil, then immediately reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for at least 15 minutes—or for up to 45 minutes if you have time, which deepens the flavor. Serve hot, topped with your favorite garnishes such as shredded cheddar, sour cream, diced jalapeños, or crushed tortilla chips.
